Shiny New Thing: HP z800 Personal Workstation w/ Intel Xeon “Westmere” CPUs

We have received, at The Orbiting O’Odua, the latest HP z800 Personal Workstation.

The latest John Obeto Special, this z800 is another seemingly over-the-top production from the minds of Mike D. and the wizards at the HP Personal Workstation Group in Fort Collins, Colorado.

And I am the recipient of their expertise, experience, and largesse, all for you, of course!

In actuality, this workstation has been my personal stallion for the past four weeks, but I was waiting until I attended the recently-concluded HP Workstation Lab Experience Event to bring you my thoughts for this review series.

My thoughts on how I am going to structure the review series will be forthcoming. Until then, take a gander at the specs of this z800:

The HP z800 Personal Workstation, the Fall 2010 John Obeto Special:

  • Dual Intel Xeon X5680, 3.33 GHz, 6 cores each, 12 logical cores
  • 48 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA Quadro FX5800, 4 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA Tesla c2050, 4 GB RAM
  • 160 GB SSD boot drive
  • 2 TB data drive
  • HP Integrated Liquid Cooling
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit

I know it’s hard to concentrate and actually work, using a system as tough as this; but no fear: I am up to the task!
